China has stated its ambition to host a "green Olympics, shared Olympics, and open and clean Olympics", including a commitment to power all the venues with green electricity. Sinomach as a leading Chinese builder has leveraged its technological advantages in the clean energy sector to undertake many green projects for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics Games.

Beijing's vision of hosting a sustainable Winter Olympics is materializing in a big way, and the Games organizers are hoping the venues and projects keep benefiting sports and social and economic development after the sporting gala closes.

Clean energy powers cold and heat source supply for Yanqing competition area

China IPPR International Engineering Co Ltd (IPPR), an affiliate of Sinomach, was in charge of an integrated energy utilization project in Yanqing, a competition area of the Beijing Winter Olympics. The project was to provide 100 percent "green" power supply for the cold and heat sources of the Yanqing Olympic Village and the press center of the Yanqing competition area, as well as energy security services for these facilities.

According to China's green building evaluation standard and low-energy demonstration, the project's design reflected the country's concept of an Olympics that aims for greenness, energy conservation and sustainability.

Waste water recycled in the Winter Olympics

Sinomach TDI International Engineering Co Ltd (CMTIC), a subsidiary of Sinomach, designed two waste water treatment plants and their supporting pipe networks in Chongli, a district of the Games' co-host Zhangjiakou, Hebei province. The project, an important municipal waste water treatment venture built to support the Games, was designed to serve the Games' core areas and their pipeline routes.

With independently developed low energy consumption technology, the plant, which collects and treats waste water in the Games' core areas, can adjust according to water quality changes and adapt to operating conditions in cold areas. The treated water is recycled to be used for urban greening, road cleaning and snow making at Olympic venues.

Another plant mainly receives and treats waste water from urban areas and areas along the network. In consideration of complicated terrain along the line, the project team took targeted measures such as integrating mechanical and manual pipe jacking construction to meet local conditions. The plant will improve the urban wastewater treatment capacity and standard in Chongli, and realize full collection and treatment of regional wastewater, bringing the local water environment to a higher level.

Green infrastructure built for Thaiwoo resort in Chongli

The Chongli Thaiwoo Cultural Tourism Resort is a training center for athletes from all over the world. It also receives and provides accommodation for the world's journalists.

Sinomach subsidiary IPPR undertook the infrastructure supporting engineering design of the resort, including roads, pipe networks, water supply stations and wastewater treatment plants. The project design has been fully recognized by related government organs, and serves as a strong guarantee for the smooth hosting of the Winter Olympics.
